Dark Model

Dark Model is the latest project from award-winning music producer, Tatsuya Oe, and it is the theme music that you have been looking for.  It is epic, emotional, and beat-oriented orchestral electronic music.  Oe has a diverse musical background in music which has continued to evolve as he has reached the 20 year milestone in his musical career.  He has collaborated with artists like the late James Brown, Serge Gainsbourg, Ron Sexsmith, Chic, and Simon LeBon (of Duran Duran) just to name a few.  Music journalists have referred to him as the “Remix Wizard” and the “Modern Renaissance Man” “…sailing into the uncharted waters of dance music.”

Dark Model’s first album was nominated for an Annual Independent Music Award  in the Dance/Electronica Album category.  His music has been featured in numerous major media projects from box office film trailers to television commercials.

His latest release, “Saga“, is a more progressive, melodious, and dramatic orchestral electronica.  It attempts and succeeds in igniting an awakening in the listener’s imagination and due to it’s detailed texturing, is designed for repeated listening.  Read the featured article on our city site, Mobtoronto, here.  You can buy it here.

Kim Tibbs

Soul Snatcher

Call it what you want, Kim Tibbs calls it Destiny.  Singing from out the womb, this preacher’s daughter credits her late father for her musical ability.  She has over 30 years of musical experience and wears many hats:  arranger, keyboardist, lyricist, accomplished Pianist, Producer, and Songwriter.  All that and brains too, she holds two Masters degrees and is working on her Doctorate.  She literally schools while she sings.

Her singles, “I Need You For Your Love”, “Soul!”, “Drifting”, and “Move!” have all got some serious play on U.K. Soul stations and due to their performance on the charts have spread her revival soul movement to 12 countries and counting.

Her list of artists she’s collaborated with is too immense to list here, but here are some highlights:  Billy Ray Cyrus, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Percy Sledge, Raheem DeVaughn, and numerous other accomplished musicians from every genre.

Kim has shared the stage with numerous acclaimed American Gospel choirs, as well as Mary J. Blige, Ruben Studdard, Lakeside, Christopher Williams, & Keke Wyatt.

Catch this spark before it turns into an inferno.

Michael Shand

Michael Shand has been a close friend of Mob Boss Chase for nearly 20 years, but a friend of music since he first touched the ivory keys. Mike “The Hand” Shand is a quality person, friend and a mind-blowing keyboardist.

His peers will tell you that he is a brilliant musician able to turn a song inside out, identify what’s special about it, enhance that and present it back to you in a way you have never heard before.  The roster of amazing artists he’s worked with and wowed is too long to list.

This summer alone he served as musical director for Juno winning R&B crooner Sean Jones‘ wildly successful Soul In The City residency at Casa Loma in Toronto, while plane-hopping across the world as keyboardist for chart-topping, multi-platinum recording artist, Johnny Reid with his equally beautiful and talented fiancee, and Johnny Reid back up singer, Miku Graham.

When he is on the local hustle, Michael is routinely booked for corporate gigs, weddings, special events and most times you can catch him at Bar Italia on College St. every Friday or Joe Mamas on King St. every Saturday.

Born of Jamaican parents, Michael attributes his love for piano from memories of his father mellowing out to jazz tunes in the darkness of their basement. “Michael. Come here!” he’d say in his Jamaican accent. “You have to hear Joe Zawinul’s piano solo on ‘The Song My Lady Sings’.”  And although, neither of them knew it, moments like that formed the man Shand, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Cake Without The Icing

Some people believe that sugar is the “over-the-counter” drug that is slowly killing all of us.  And believe it or not, there are some people who prefer the cake to the icing.  T.C. Folkpunk gets that.  He is the cake.  He doesn’t need the icing.  If you think about what you’re consuming, instead of just absorbing anything, his music may just be for you.

T.C. Folkpunk is the fifth Beatle.  Whether they know it or not, is not really relevant, is it?  All that matters is what happens when he picks up a guitar.  T.C. has played hundreds of live gigs, starting at the age of 17 (using his height to convince people that let him in the door, but using his talent to prove to them that he belonged there).

Folkpunk, as a genre, has been described as “unplugged guitars, no bass or drums, and a great story written into each tune.”

T.C.’s latest release, 2014’s “Lamest Fast Words“, not only wins for Best Album Name in our books, but for uniqueness.  All 12 songs were recorded in true “folkpunk” style, live off the floor with no overdubs, captured in a single two-hour session.  T.C. also just made his acting debut in the feature film “Love In The Sixth“.  He is also one of the film’s score composers.  Book this star in the making before it’s too late.  He just released his newest album, “Hearsay is 20/20“.

Rhythmic Healer

Joshua Doerksen has the elixir to what ails you, whether it’s the corporate rat race or your inner demons.  He mixes the right amount of electronic tones, world instrumentation, traditional chants and vocal looping to create a digital tribal sound.  The right dose of this mixture has been known to elicit an experience of altered reality or trance known to many aboriginal cultures as “dream time” or “spirit realm” where the free flow of unfiltered self-expression leads to truth insight and awakening.

Joshua, himself, is an actual well-traveled shaman, who throughout his travels was exposed to several different styles of traditional world music which were often used in healing ceremonies and rituals.

After obtaining a university degree in classical music and opening himself to expanding genres, Joshua currently performs with DJs and drummers, and also performs during yoga and meditation classes.  He’s also expressed his inner artist by collaborating with artists in other mediums such as dancing and painting, most notably recently working with the National Ballet of Canada.  He’s got the right groove for your soul.
