22 years ago, I moved to the urban Metropolis that is Toronto from small town Canada. I was hungry for anything hot, cool and fresh, because they didn’t have that where I came from. We heard about this new club downtown that featured live R&B music and was owned by American R&B crooner, Keith Washington, and he was known to show up and bring some of his famous friends with him. We made the trek, it was a classy joint, great food, chill atmosphere, and a welcoming stage area in the front of the place. I was so hype for this night. My first real esoteric R&B club experience. I take my seat, and the music starts. This rich voice takes over the room and commands your attention as a magical riff to a classic R&B joint is belted as his introduction. Just as my crew and I were thinking, “Who is THAT?”, right on time, we hear, “Good evening, my name is Carlos Morgan.”
He proceeded to blow us away with covers and originals, all elevated by his unique way of attacking whatever material is placed in front of him. Over the years, at various industry shows I’ve gotten to know the man, little by little, and as talented as he is as a singer, songwriter, producer, and performer, he is equally a great, quality person.
Carlos’ album “Feelin’ Alright” won 9 different awards, most notably a Juno for Best R&B/Soul Recording & a MuchMusic Video award for Best R&B/Soul Video. His last CD, “The Compilation” was released in September 2012 on his independent label, Solroc Music. It features “Something ‘Bout You”, “Fascinated”, and a new mix of a fan favourite from “Feelin’ Alright”, “Forever For You” (Soul Mix). The album also features “Just Jane” which was a number one song in Germany.
Carlos is routinely booked for corporate gigs, weddings, special events and most weekends you can catch him at various local venues in Toronto blowing minds.
